Networking and Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi that reaches every room: access points in the ceiling, a network rack behind them, and the cable that connects the two.

Access points where the signal is needed

The access point in the Avant job photo on this page is mounted flush in a tray ceiling, next to the recessed light, where it disappears into the room. That is the Avant approach to Wi-Fi: several wired access points placed through the house in the design, instead of one router in a corner and a string of extenders.

Everything else depends on it

The network is what nearly every other system on this site runs over: the streaming TVs, the Sonos, the Control4 app, the cameras and the video doorbell. Camilo C.’s house puts 6 systems on one network — AV, a home theater, lighting, pool wiring, networking and AI cameras — and that only works when the network was planned for them.

The rack behind it

The access points home-run to a rack with the switches and a patch panel; the rack on the home page is one Avant built. The cable comes from the structured cabling plan, and where the network has to leave the house — a pool house, a gate camera, a call box — Avant runs fiber out to it.

  • Network rack with switches and a patch panel
  • Wired drops to TVs and offices
  • Networks extended to outbuildings over fiber

Answers

Networking & Wi-Fi: questions

Why does my Wi-Fi not reach every room?

Usually because one router is trying to cover the whole house through walls and floors. Avant solves it with ceiling access points wired back to the network and placed where the signal is needed, like the one pictured on this page.

Why does my phone keep switching Wi-Fi networks?

That often happens when a house runs several separate networks — a router plus extenders with their own names. A wired access-point system runs one network across the house, so devices stay on it as you move.

Do Wi-Fi access points need to be wired?

For the systems Avant installs, yes: each ceiling access point gets its own network cable back to the rack, which carries both the data and the power.

Can you extend my network to a detached building?

Yes. Avant runs fiber to pool houses, gate cameras, call boxes and other outbuildings, then terminates it into the house network.

How much does whole-home Wi-Fi installation cost?

It depends on the size of the house and how many access points it needs. Avant sets that count in the design and quotes from there; there is no published rate.
