Fiber installation and termination

Fiber out to the gate camera, the call box, the pool house — run, terminated and tied into the network in the house.

When a building is too far for copper

The old Avant site described this service as fiber connections for networking systems, or for extending the network to places like gate cameras, call boxes and pool houses. Those are the places a copper Ethernet run cannot reach well: the standard limits a run to 100 meters, and a gate at the end of a long drive is often farther than that.

Run, terminated, connected

Avant runs the fiber, terminates both ends, and connects it to the network equipment, so the gate camera or the pool house sits on the same network as the house. The job photo on this page shows where that happens on one Avant install: a garage wall with the network equipment and the fiber panel mounted on the block.

Pool houses, gates and outbuildings

Camilo C.’s review lists pool wiring among the systems Avant put in, alongside AV, a home theater, lighting, networking and AI cameras. The fiber is what lets a camera at the gate, a call box at the entrance or a TV in the pool house behave as if it were inside. It is planned with the rest of the low-voltage design, and Justin’s 20-plus years in networking go into the route.

  • Fiber to gate cameras and call boxes
  • Fiber to pool houses and detached buildings
  • Termination at both ends
  • Connection into the house network rack

A. M.’s review is about a different kind of hard job, but it says the same thing about how Avant takes on work other installers pass over.

Answers

Fiber Installation & Termination: questions

What is fiber termination?

It is finishing each end of a fiber cable with a connector or splice so it can plug into network equipment. Avant runs the fiber and terminates it, so the far building comes online as part of your network.

Why use fiber instead of network cable to an outbuilding?

Distance, mainly: a copper Ethernet run is limited to 100 meters, and fiber goes much farther. Fiber also carries no electrical current between the two buildings.

What can fiber connect on my property?

Gate cameras and call boxes, pool houses, detached garages and other outbuildings — anything on the property that needs the house’s network.

Do you install fiber for businesses?

Yes. Avant works for builders and businesses as well as homeowners, and the fiber is run and terminated the same way for each.

How much does fiber termination cost?

It depends on the length of the run, the route and how many ends are terminated, so Avant quotes it once the route is known rather than from a published rate.
